I would like to give the strongest positive recommendation for Ethan at Vermont Independent Power. The background for this positive recommendation is as follows: I had received a quote from a major company which sells and repairs generators of about $1,000 to repair a major oil leak. I called Vermont Independent Power, looking for another bid. Ethan came when he said he would, and after spending about an hour, exhaustively testing my generator, he called me to say he could find no leak whatsoever, and believed there was none. Since that time, he has done annual maintenance, always comes when he says he would, and has given me detailed feedback after each such visit. There never was an oil leak. My generator now is about 12 years old, and continues to work flawlessly when the grid power goes out. His bills for the annual maintenance were always reasonable, and included mainly his own time and a few low cost parts. Ethan Kittle is a true gem! He was the only one of 6 other electricians in my area (northern VT) certified by my back-up generator's manufacturer (Generac) that even responded to my Saturday morning phone call about my back-up generator's malfunction in the midst of a major storm-induced power outage, even though I'm not an established customer of his & am out of his usual service range (60 mi away). And then he took the time to talk me through l the troubleshooting, (which identified the problem to be a failed engine temperature sensor). He then did the research to identify the part (my generator is OLD), & figured out that he had an equivalent part to replace it. After I drove over to get it & installed it (remove & replace 2 small Phillips-headed bolts), my generator was back up & running just fine! My freezers & refrigerators of food were salvaged & both my tenants & out-of-state visiting relatives were very pleased to again have back-up generator power. (The electric power company's estimate was another 24 hrs before power would be restored.) See more See less

Vermont Independent Power has serviced my equipment including the GENERAC, and other electrical needs since before the inception of this company. Ethan Kittle, Owner, returns each year. He operates with precision and is thorough in his inspection, maintenance, and equipment cleaning. Ethan is an expert in his trade having both on the job experience going back many years but also brings in knowledge from having completed formal education training. The company is responsive to customer calls and setting up timely service appointments.
